Sugarless Oat Drops

Sugarless Oat Drops

Does your kids have odd demands during different time of the day?More so when it comes to eating? Mine does.Like cookies for breakfast or yogurt and sprinkle for lunch, donuts for dinner.Seriousely?really? What i am doing wrong here?Did you also notice something common?sugar.Yes the sweetopia. So i have been in lookout for breakfast cookies for sometime. This morning i finally settled on this sugarless oat drops.I had to adapt the recipe big time, here is why? I was DETERMINED to make it if i have most all ingredients,no matter what and this is how it went. Last night i had two big bananas, this morning i noticed one.My darling husband had healthy snack of banana :-).So i added homemade applesauce to make up for that. It calls for almond meal. Here is a thing,i don’t buy almond meal. Why?It is expensive and i don’t use it as much like “flour” but i do keep raw almonds to snack on or blanched almonds to bake with.So i ground it to make almond meal.It was 1/2 cup instead...

Whole Wheat Cake donuts

Whole Wheat Cake donuts

Yesterday after the school drive back home was rough.I picked up Ms A and she started crying.I asked what happened. Her answer was ‘She wants donuts.”I do not understand how does that happen.I mean really, crying?for donuts ?It is strange to me.Two days, this past week, she came home with her face red and green, eating class birthday party cupcake. So my guess was, lack of sugar at the end of the day had rather dramatic impact on her..so much so,that her little brother joined in the fun and i had full blown music to my ears. During that period,i promised them that i will make donuts at home.Actually i was wanting to make donuts for quite sometime but that moment sorta solidified the procrastination to action.Things that you do for your kids.I am madly in love with my kids,i know you can’t see it always but i am. Last time i made these donuts,i used all purpose, butter etc and i was good..i wanted to give a healthy twist. It is oxymoron, isn’t it? These donuts are cake donuts, baked.Traditional donuts...

French Toast

French Toast

Last sunday one of our new friend invited us to have lunch with them after the church.I love trying new places to eat and this also happens to be one of those kid friendly places.I had fish tacos’s there .i will stop here about the tacos.Subject of another post..oh wait, let me just say,it was AMAZING…i was overstuffed..so i napped…another Sunday routine of mine, which i do not like to tinker with. I was not very hungry even by the dinner time and wanted to make something EASY and quick for the family.Certainly something which does not have meat.I noticed sourdough bread,i had bought and thought it i will be perfect to make French Toast, traditional kind not the baked one. What is French Toast here is what i knew as ‘Meethi Bread”(“Sweet Bread) growing up.My mom would simply dip the regular bread in sweetened milk,no eggs and cook it on generously buttered(“Ghee” actually) skillet until is brown and we will just eat it like that.  With that memory,i started cooking the  french toast.I know...

Whole Wheat Biscuits

Whole Wheat Biscuits

Yesterday I spent nearly all day outside and was not in a mood for much of elaborate cooking. So when i feel like it ,we have breakfast for dinner.I decided on biscuits. It is one of the favorite breakfast item for my family.Particularly my boys 🙂 Do you know what is better then whole wheat biscuits? Fluffy and soft  spaceships,Hello Kitty and Heart Biscuits !! I have come long way in making biscuits and have made some awful biscuits in past. This time i was trying with completely whole wheat.I tried two version. Buttermilk Cheddar Biscuits using Whole Wheat White Flour Buttermilk Biscuits using Whole Wheat Pastry flour,i left cheese out to see how it tastes without cheese. Verdict : No significant difference in YUMMINESS .It was received VERY WELL by my whole wheat loving family (*sarcasm*),hubby and kids alike. I used cast iron skillet because i LOVE cast iron, you can bake in any baking dish. I learn this tip to keep the biscuit close to each other,so as it rises,it lifts its adjacent...

Whole Wheat Pop Tarts

Whole Wheat Pop Tarts

This weekend my two little loves and i joined hands together to whip up some treats for school days.I take this philosophy very seriously that,”Let your kids help you in the kitchen with the food that they will be eating.”Though it doesn’t happen everyday or doesn’t even happen in most organized manner,we try as much as we can. I got acquainted with this sugar overload after i got married  and my husband had it for the breakfast sometime.Hmmm..can you taste anything besides sweetness? And why would you eat that much sweet in the morning?Needless to say,pop tarts hardly visited our home soon after.I don’t think i ever bought it for our kids. Then I came across this whole wheat pop-tart recipe  and have been wanting to make it ever since. It did not look anything like what i have seen in store, white and glazed. So i decided to give it a try. I let my kids cut it in the shape they liked. My son chose Buzz lightyear’s space ship and we cut some as liberty...

Baked French Toast

Baked French Toast

I have a confession today. I am not a big breakfast eater.I know i know, you are saying “Breakfast is the most important of the meal of the day.”I agree with you 100%.Here is the irony.I LOVE LOVE breakfast but i am too lazy to make them every morning.Yes,’make them’.I do not like most of the stuff which comes packaged. You know what i am talking about?I like  hot breakfast, the kind my mom used to make for us but it is time consuming.I am SO GLAD that my family loves cereal.Could you have imagined my plight if they demanded hot breakfast every morning.Phew. So what i am having this morning for breakfast? Jamaican roast coffee would have been my answer but may i add with baked french toast to go with it 🙂 My hot breakfast solution I have not reached the complete solution yet but making progress at small pace.I am experimenting with  making the breakfast which  i like ahead of time and freezing it in small portion. Some do better...
