Slow cooker Hot Chocolate

Slow cooker Hot Chocolate

Does your family have a Christmas tree trimming tradition? My friend Heather and her family have bundle of fun Christmas traditions. It is the most wonderful time of the year, she says. I concur 🙂 She shared with me some of the fun things that they have been doing with the family over the years. She says, starting on December 1st ,she gives the whole family Christmas jammies. Great idea Heather. I like that you do  it in the beginning of the month.Perfect for cold winter ahead. Favorite cookies and fudge are made as family prepares to make handmade ornaments. During the tree trimming, Heather and her family  have the hot chocolate,a must have indeed.Every year they try new hot chocolate recipe and evidently it turns out to be better than the last ones, I might add. She shared her new crock pot hot chocolate recipe with us and said, this is the best so far. I really did not know until now that you can make hot chocolate...

Salabat

Salabat

Do you know Philippians is an only Asian country which is predominantly Christian? Festivity in Philippians starts nine days before Christmas and continues for three whole week, starting from Dec 16 and ending with the feast of the Epiphany, on the first Sunday of the January. Enactments’ of journey of the wise men to see baby Jesus is orchestrated in the communities around the time of epiphany. On Christmas Eve churches hold several mass called ‘Simbang Gabi’, which is similar to the ‘Misas Del Gallo’ (Mass of the Rooster) in Guatemala. During this holiday season, hot ginger tea, called ‘Salabat’ with rice cakes is popular to serve. It is a sweet, spicy drink. Certainly good for cold and sore throat too,i would add.I made it only a cup for me. Salabat : 1...

Cherry Limeade

Cherry Limeade

Often times, when i pick my kids from the school, they ask me for the after school treat.Spoiled ha !Though i do not oblige them every day with a trip to get vanilla shake or frozen yogurt,i often time get them slush.Happy hour helps too 🙂 One of their favorite slush is Cherry Limeade.I didn’t think about making it until i saw Pioneer Woman making it.Other day,we had a Pizza take out for lunch. It came with Soda.I thought this will be a perfect opportunity to make cherry limeade. So here is the version which we like. You can use regular limes.I used key limes because i bought key limes to make pie and never got around making it. We don’t like cherries,if you do,don’t mash it.It settles down at the bottom of the pitcher,so you won’t get the pulp. PrintCherry Limeade Ingredients10 Oz maraschino cherries 1/2 cup Key lime juice 2/3 cup sugar Lemon-lime soda InstructionsIn a 2 Qt pitcher, add cherries, lime juice, sugar. With the wooden spatula, mash it all a bit. Fill it up with Lemon-lime soda....

Hot Cocoa

Hot Cocoa

We are having winter around here.Temperature on Christmas day  is suppose to be hovering in 20s,later in the night..thats cooooooold.I like cold weather.Well, let me give you more realistic idea of the way i like winter. I like sitting up by the fire, cozied up with my loves, watching polar express as a family or watching  English Period pieces when kids are in bed.Think Jane Austen. Downton Abbey kind.Sipping hot cocoa fluffed to the rim with marshmallows. I imagine, some of you may like it too.So this year,i whipped up a batch of hot cocoa mix to share with my family and friends.A little Christmas gift.I had received it first time from my sweet friend Emily couple of year ago.I loved it.So she has been my inspiration behind this gift.I loved her recipe and i still have some from the last year i made.So this year i decided to try another mix with the help of pinterest course at catchingfireflies I made the batch as recipe called for  and tested a cup using that.I...

Raspberry Limeade

Raspberry Limeade

My daughter had asked for Strawberry shortcake birthday party. So i thought, wouldn’t it be cool to have a drink to go along with it?Something which is reminiscent of characters. Strawberry shortcake have such fun and yummy characters name that i always start craving the goodies as i read the book.I was looking for really easy drink.I settled on Raspberry Limeade in the honor of the Raspberry Tart.Little bit more work(i know that is oxymoron) then i wanted to put in but good thing was i can do it advance. Word of caution for anyone who is attempting to make it,buy already squeezed out lime juice.Or,if you want to squeeze your own, then use limes not Key limes and if you have kids in tow, then buy the limes first. Why?When i go to grocery store,my kids insist that i get the cart which has steering wheels.I oblige those request because then they have more patience with me and i have more sanity. You get the idea.Problem is,those car tends to be small since that fancy -shmancy car like seats take space and...
