Crock Pot Taco Bar

Crock Pot Taco Bar

I hosted ‘Easter Spring Party’ couple of days ago with dear friends and sweet kids.I was planning a good grub party which is easy on budget, easy to put together and delegate and certainly does not involve standing near the stove. So me and my friend came up with the idea of setting the Taco bar.Since I can totally make everything in Crockpot and go about doing everything else without worrying about the food.

I was introduced to crockpot couple of years ago.I have yet to catch on the craze of ‘Crock pot’ or ‘Slow Cooker’.My Mother in law gifted me a slow cooker and it sat in my cabinets for long time.I didn’t know what I would make in that.It is a paradigm shift for me.Indian kitchen is used to of having ‘Pressure cooker’ for fast cooking.I don’t use  ‘pressure cooker’  as much as my Mom does or many Indian homes do.I just use the regular pots.May be because I don’t make much of the variety as I have been used to, of eating growing up in mom’s kitchen.Combine that with the fact that I  ‘only make dinner’ standing by the stove top diligently, rest are quick fixes ,so I am not much in a hurry to get things done at rocket speed.

So for those of you who do not know about ‘slow cooker’ or ‘crock pot’,like me who wasn’t brought up on that or heard about it until very late than many here, let me tell you they are great for

  • Busy parents/soccer mom,who do not have time to stand by the stove every evening and cook hearty meal.
  • Working parents, again lack of time.
  • Anyone who does not feel like cooking and  would rather spend time reading books to their kids or playing with them or anything of that kind.
  • Anyone who does not feel like cooking every evening and  would rather spend time on more pressing issues like reading feeds from favs, pinterest,Facebook or watching episodes of FN or flipping through borrowed food magazines (me).
You basically put your content with all seasonings etc and set it to cook all day.You have wonderful meal ready by dinner as if you worked so hard for it.Not to mention happy bellies. So for the party,I made everything except the dessert  in a Crockpot. My mother in law’s gifted little slow cooker came in handy that time to make the dishes concurrently.I often use  that to make beans.
For dessert we had
My friends brought  Tortillas,Taco Shells,Taco topping such as sour cream, chopped lettuce, tomatoes, shredded cheese etc.It was a blast.
