House of the Plates
I read the news flash that Mexico’s Popocatepetl volcano started spewing today,on July the 4th.How wild it is to talk about it here?Read along.
We celebrated America’s birthday today with parade, fireworks, swim and of course food. Happy 4th of July !
On the way back from the parade,we decided to take a lunch break at the restaurant which has been in our list for a long time.’PO-PO‘.Set in the quiet back trails of the hill country,it is well known around here.
When i heard the name for the first time, i was amused by the choice of a name.Lo and behold it is named after ‘Mexico’s Popocatepetl volcano‘ by Ned Houston, who started the restaurant in early 1930s.
What’s unique about this place? It is the house of the plates.Over 2000 plates adorn the walls of this restaurant. Each plate has an unique memory. One time owners of the restaurant decided that pictures are not enough to tell the story of their travel, so they started collecting plates from the places they visited.
As far as the food , I have heard great things of the soup at this place, so i tried the soup of the day,Chicken Gumbo.I concur 🙂
So if you are wandering on the trails of the hill country, go take a detour to ‘Po-Po’ to dine with a piece of history.I am thinking to resume my spoon collecting hobby 🙂
