Oatmeal Cranberry Walnut cookies
I like cranberries.Really?I didn’t know that until i tasted my friend, Donna’s Oatmeal, cranberry, walnut cookies.I could not wait for her to send me the recipe so i googled around and surprisingly Donna follows the same recipe!
Since everyone in the family loved these cookies when i made them for the first time,I decided to make these cookies again as our weekend mom-daughter afternoon baking deal.
We have been working on the verse “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,23 gentleness and self-control. ” – Galatians 5:22
I was trying to think through how i can work some of these ‘fruit of the spirit’ in the cookie making process?Fortunately,i didn’t had to think too much.It unfolded and we talked about it as it took place, not in particular order
Patience – Waiting for each step to be over with before finally mixing everything.Dry ingredients needed to be added in the bowl first ,then goes the wet ingredients and in the very end we add nut and berries.Ms A. didn’t wanted to wait for these steps, she wanted to mix everything as soon as she can possibly,so we can bake the cookies. It required PATIENCE to not only mix everything but finally be able to get to the plate and eat.
Self Control – I hear eating cookie dough is very common.I never feel the urge to do that but my daughter wanted to,so it gave me little window to talk about ‘self control’,in a very simplistic way.
Kindness, goodness – One of our neighbor is recovering from knee surgery. So we took meal to them.I let her carry one of the small pack, ring the bell and hand over the meal and be delighted in the gratitude they felt, for the meal we brought. So i explained her ,we were showing kindness and goodness to our neighbor by helping, when they needed it.
Faithfulness: We tried to act in faithfulness as He says,”Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.” Hebrews 13:16
Love– We shared this sweet deliciousness with family and neighbour. She offered the cookie to her little brother by herself.Displays Love.
Peace and Joy – We had a peace about the fact that we were able to help our neighbour in need.We rejoiced in this as a family.
