What is one of your most favorite American dessert?

Mine is B.R.O.W.N.I.E 🙂

I like fudgey,bit soft brownie,right out from the oven with coffee.I did exactly that as i watched ‘The Artist’ last night,totally against my plans of sleeping early.For the record,its  a good movie,good silent movie of 21st century :-).I liked it actually more then i thought i would.Now go and watch it,if you haven’t already !

Right now,we are experiencing ‘winter’ in Texas.Yes when sun doesn’t come out  and mercury touches 50F and below,it is cold here.Fall is in the air and i love the rare glimpse of fall color  at the lake near our house.


I told you earlier that we are ‘not’ a pumpkin lover family.So what i do?I am determined to use ‘pumpkin’ in as many ways as i can and see how my family (dis)likes it.No,the reason is not that i want to see their mouth twitch with disgust as they take a bite of it,i want to change their opinion and mine too that we ‘can’ actually ‘like’ pumpkin and start eating this ‘good for us’ gift of nature.So yesterday,i tried pumpkin brownies.My last trial was not great,so i tried different recipe this time and result was ohhhhhhhhhhhh so delishhhhhhh.LOVE.

We had a playdate yesterday evening and my friend,Stacey said,its better then the ‘non-pumpkin’ brownie.Trust me,not exaggerating !

I followed this recipe at delishhh and the result was a piece of mouthwatering decadent  dessert.

  • I used coconut sugar instead of white.I was dying to use it since i picked up the  pack at Costco.I reduced the amount of sugar by 1/2 cup and still it was plenty sweet, so next time i will dare to reduce the amount by another 1/4 cup and see if it changes the texture any.
  • Pumpkin and chocolate melt together in perfect harmony and result is gooey brownie.I love the nuggets of walnuts in my brownie 🙂
  • I also increased the amount of pumpkin by 1/4 cup,which i think i should have just used 1 cup.I wanted more then a ‘kiss’ of pumpkin to the brownie.

Pumpkin Brownies


    Dry Ingredients
  1. 3/4 cup Whole Wheat White Flour
  2. 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  3. 1/2 teaspoon salt
  4. Wet Ingredients
  5. 3/4 cup butter (melted)
  6. 1 cup Coconut sugar
  7. 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  8. 3 eggs
  9. Mix in the end
    Bowl 1
  10. 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  11. 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  12. Bowl 2
  13. 3/4 cup pumpkin puree
  14. 1/2 cup walnuts (chopped)
  15. 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  16. 1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  17. 1/2 tespoon nutmeg


  1. Pre-heat the oven to 350F.
  2. Mix all the dry ingredients together in a small bowl.
  3. In a bigger bowl,cream butter and sugar using hand held mixer.Add vanilla extract to it.Add eggs one by one.
  4. Add dry ingredients to wet.
  5. Divide the mixture equally in two bowl.
  6. In the first bowl, add the ingredients listed under 'bowl1'.Stir it well.This will be chocolate mix bowl.
  7. In a second bowl,add the ingredients listed under 'bowl2'.Stir it all together.This will be pumpkin mix bowl.
  8. Grease a 8 by 8 inch baking dish.
  9. Spread a layer of 1/2 of chocolate mix at the bottom.Followed by a layer of 1/2 of pumpkin batter.
  10. Repeat the same,ending with pumpkin at top.
  11. Using a spatula,make a line as if you are cutting a cake in both directions.Don't overdo it.It creates marble.
  12. Bake at 30-35 mins.
  13. Let it cool and cut.
  14. Enjoy!
