Quinoa Granola

Quinoa Granola

What did you have for breakfast this morning? I had quinoa granola parfait ūüôā This past saturday,i whipped up a batch of granola after much procrastination.I had quinoa (kee-n-wah) sitting in my pantry and i wanted to include that.I whipped up batch taking inspiration from¬†twopeasandtheirpod¬†. ¬†Quinoa¬†is superfood, very old to civilaztion. It looks like bird seeds, doesn’t it? Granola is basically a mixture of some healthy grains ,nuts and¬†sweetener(if you like ) of your choice. It could be made as¬†clusters, bar or just handful of mix. I had oats and quinoa as main grain ingredients. Used honey as¬†sweetner. Nut wise,i used raw pumpkin seeds, walnuts and blanched almonds. You can add nuts of your choice. Usually granola tend to have resins, dry cranberries, dry fruits like that.I am not a fan of chewing on it,so i left it out.You shouldn’t) How do i like to eat granola? You can just snack on the mixture, which i do very often. My daugther LOVES it.I pack in a bag when i am on go to snack in the car.Though if it is...

Cinnamon Rolls

Cinnamon Rolls

Do you love cinnamon rolls? I do..a lot..actually we all do in a my family. So when i had asked my daughter earlier this month, what we should have for breakfast on Christmas morning? Her quick response was cinnamon rolls.I couldn’t have guessed ! I have watched PW cinnamon rolls episode, when it first came on and i had grandiose idea of making dozen pans full of cinnamon rolls ¬†covered in ooye- gooyee sugary goodness ever since, just like Ree did.*sigh* it didn’t happen like that, this year again. Then a week or so before Christmas, mails arrived. And there it was in packet, one of the most delightful ¬†fragrant ¬†spice.Vietnamese cinnamon, one of my sweet friend had sent me this little surprise. Now the first question,do you have cool friends like that?I am glad you do :-).Second and last question,do you get EXCITED to see something like Cinnamon or Annato or Kafir lime in your mail box?Yes,i was pretty thrilled too,as if you can’t tell. So the next best thing, after indulging in aroma of this exotic intense cinnamon was...

Pumpkin Cardamom Chai Bread

Pumpkin Cardamom Chai Bread

What if pumpkin grew at the foothills of¬†Himalayas in fall? Can you imagine, orange pumpkin heads bobbing out from the leafy tea covered hill? Well,it doesn’t happen but i imagined it anyway, when i came across pumpkin bread infused with tea.East meets West in fall ! I am not a tea drinker. Are you surprised?Growing up,first thing my mom did and still does when she wakes up, is to put a kettle of tea for brewing. It is an Indian thing. On few occasion that i do drink tea,i like mine¬†infused¬†with cardamom and ginger.Best tea combination ever if you ask me ! Since i have always preferred my rare occasion tea with cardamom,i profusely added cardamom, one of my most¬†favorite¬†spice to this bread.I should have added ginger too.Oh well for next time experiment. My kitchen was filled with cardamom aroma as it baked slowly for an hour. And now the verdict..i had to wait till evening.. When your not-so-pumpkin-lover husband tells you that “it is good, you should make it often”.Well, being a good wife that i am,i must...

Pumpkin Muffins with Streusel topping

Pumpkin Muffins with Streusel topping

Yesterday my sweet friend Jessica visited us.We have playdated since our kids were wee little.By that i mean, when they slept in their car seats during playdates.Yeah, now you are thinking if it was a playdate or mommydate ¬†:-). Since we moved out from the city,we don’t see each other as often. So you would guess that it took us only five times of rescheduling and couple of months that the day finally arrived.I kept it complete surprise from my kiddos. Its more fun that way ! We took advantage of it.Girls ¬†and a little boy played and rode and climbed the trees while moms chatted outside ūüôā It is fall in Texas, as good as fall can be here.So I am in ‘pumpkin’ mood.Let me tell you something, pumpkin as i know it in US, is new thing to me.I had a very hard time explaining to my family in India, what Americans mean by Pumpkin. What we called ‘pumpkin’ in India is called ‘Opo Squash‘ here.So this is for you my family in India....

Honey Cornmeal Muffins

Honey Cornmeal Muffins

This past week have been insanely busy for us and we are not even playing sports.I love fall and i get caught up in fall frenzy projects. So last Friday i was scouring the streets of the city for burlaps.Yes I  love burlaps.Earthy, not so chic burlaps.During this burlap spree,i found out that In every two-three week that i visit city, new road construction, road repair and enhancements starts somewhere on the route,i will go through. I have a knack for getting stuck into the traffic, like in a lane where 18 wheeler, evidently did not take the turn at an angle correctly and was stuck. Gas prices varies by block by block and yes i have developed the penchant for noticing 2 cents drop in gas prices. Cutting a burlap is an art which i really wished, all store fabric cutting folks would have  mastered it. You should take a physical small piece of fabric/burlap you are trying to match,so you are not trying to match it against the image that is imprinted in your brain. Once i did...
