‘Crown of Thorn’ bread

Posted by on Apr 7, 2012 in Bread | 1 comment

“..The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe.” John 19:2  On Good Friday morning,we read the Story of Christ Crucifixion. We asked questions. Both of my kids  were pretty curious. So now I wanted to create a visual for what we read. What would be better than making it not only visually appealing but edible too. There is nothing ‘comfortable’ and ‘cozy’ about wearing the ‘crown of thorns’ and being mocked at.My thought was as we nibble on the pieces of bread,we are reminded of humility and suffering Christ went through for us,so we don’t have to. Many family  around here have...

Tomato Rice

Growing up,in North-East of India,we ate rice once a day .Precisely for ‘lunch‘ time.Eating rice for breakfast or dinner was out of norm for me,‘Roti'(‘Tortilla’) was meant for supper or breakfast. This is not true for Western,up north of India, rice does not grow in abundance in those part and is expensive to grow but wheat and oat  does. So rice intake is not much in that part of India,’Roti’ is. When I moved to South India,it was whole another experince.Rice grows in abundance in south.People eat rice based products for breakfast, lunch and dinner.Imagine the adjustment I had to make and how much I craved for ‘Roti'(Tortilla). When I started working,I was...

Triple Cheese Bread

Posted by on Apr 5, 2012 in Bread | 1 comment

My friend Ethel is bread and cheese aficionado.Really what not to like here?So she often experiments making different bread and i hear the vedict later on.I heard very positive report on this bread which uses Cottage Cheese and is super moist. So I asked the recipe. She followed Triple Cheese Bread at KAF.Next thing i know that,on my grocery trip,I was looking for cottage cheese. I followed the recipe as it says, using Parmesan Cheese, hard to find Vermont Cheese Powder in my local grocery store.Though one thing I have to say,I had a panic attack when it was time to pour flour to bloomed yeast.I had only 1 cup of KAF,luckily I...

Panko dusted Thai Shrimp

My husband loves shrimp.I always keep it frozen in hand for lazy meal night.I like using shrimp because it cooks so fast.It is perfect for quick and light meal.I didn’t  grew up on shrimp.Fish was available to us easily but not shrimp. In India, they are called ‘Prawns’ and the biggest one is referred as ‘Tiger Prawns’.Prawns tend to be bigger in size then shrimp here.It is popular in coastal regions of India. I remember the trip i made to my roommate’s home, during my studies in South India city ,since i could not go to my home in weekend. It took me almost one and half almost 2 days of train journey (wait...

Broken Yellow Rice

Whats in the name?  I went to the Chinese store little while back and noticed they have decent size bag of Jasmine Rice.So I grabbed. When my turn came to pay at the counter,I noticed that it is not ‘Jasmine rice‘ but it is ‘Broken Jasmine Rice‘ that I have picked up by mistake.I looked behind me,it was a long line of people.Mind you,my kids think standing in the line quietly is against the rule, they have to  go to aisle and lift the product and bring it to their eye level if they can,to see what it is.So I don’t wanted to go back and correct my mistake and stand...

I hosted ‘Easter Spring Party’ couple of days ago with dear friends and sweet kids.I was planning a good grub party which is easy on budget, easy to put together and delegate and certainly does not involve standing near the stove. So me and my friend came up with the idea of setting the Taco bar.Since I can totally make everything in Crockpot and go about doing everything else without worrying about the food. I was introduced to crockpot couple of years ago.I have yet to catch on the craze of ‘Crock pot’ or ‘Slow Cooker’.My Mother in law gifted me a slow cooker and it sat in my cabinets for...

Crock Pot is great for making Taco filling.I had the party  in the daytime,so i set out my  crock pot before I went to bed and in the morning my kitchen was full of yummy aroma.Thats the magic of crock pot cooking.I wanted to keep the seasoning straightforward,no guessing game kind, in this meal, since one of my dear friend is allergic to Gluten.I had my favorite Fiesta seasoning and I based the meal around it.This is what went in my chicken filling.
